Mozo Shoes Review and Giveaway

*This post is brought to you by Mozo.

I have been very much looking forward to spring, even if it has been slow in coming! I am ready to be done with the snow and icky weather. Spring can bring its own weather challenges, though, with lots of rain, which can sometimes be just as slippery as ice and snow.

Getting Crafty with Epson

*This post is brought to you by Epson.

I have long been a scrapbooker and I love finding new products and techniques to give my books that extra touch of something special. Sadly, I haven't had a chance to take my books out and work on them in quite a while. When I do, though, I know that I'll have an edge to make them great.

Peter Som is Coming to Kohl's!

*I participated in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Kohl's. I received a gift card as a thank you for participating.

Clothes shopping for myself has always been a challenge, but several years ago, when I first started shopping at Kohl's, it got a whole lot better. They always seem to have the latest fashions, but at prices I can afford. This spring, Peter Som's DesigNation collection is coming, bringing with it the feel of the island of St. Barths! Next Friday, on April 4th at noon (ET), Peter Som is going to be hosting a Google+ hangout and debuting his collection. Attendees will have the chance to be the first to grab up their favorite designs! So make sure you RSVP for the hangout and mark your calendar!

Baby Bella Maya Review and Giveaway!

Babies are messy creatures. Not a day goes by that I'm not cleaning smeared food, poop, or some unknown substance off of my 14 month old or her surroundings.

Have you ever been out of town while your child had a poop explosion in their car seat? I have. In fact, it was so bad on one long road trip with my first child, that we just threw the seat away! I was a new mom and I wasn't even 'Mostly Together', more like 'Trying Desperately to Hold it Together Mommy.'

Toxin Freedom Fighters!

*I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Seventh Generation. I received a promotional item and product samples as a thank you for participating.

I have been on a quest to make myself and my family healthier this year. While a lot of my focus in on our diet, some of my focus is also on the spaces that we live in. Being mindful of this, I have teamed up with Seventh Generation to spread awareness about the chemicals in the environments that we live and work in.

*This post is brought to you by Restaurant.com

I love my children and I love my husband. However, there are times I just want to get away for a bit and recharge my batteries! So this past Saturday, my sister and I (she has two children and a husband to get away from too!) went out for lunch and pedicures.

It.

Was.

Glorious!

Gifts for Dad

*This post is brought to you by Solosso.

Mostly Together Dad can be very picky when it comes to his clothes. He likes things to be a certain way and that can make it very difficult to find new clothes for him. When we were introduced to Solosso, it seemed like a great way for him to get exactly what he wanted.

When you buy a shirt from Solosso, you are able to choose everything. From the fabric to the fit, to the style and measurements, everything is customizable. Even details that seem so small, like collar buttons, are something that you can choose yourself. We loved that there was the option to add a monogram too. This detail adds an elegant touch that you just can't get in a brick and mortar store.

Taco Chop

I feel like it's been a really long time since I've shared a recipe with you all. The 'Taco Chop' is something that my husband came up with one day when he was playing around with making dinner. It was delicious and I knew you all would love to try something new also!

Taking the Drama out of Bedtime

*This post is brought to you by Pajama Drama.

I love pajamas. I pretty much live in them. If I don't have to go anywhere, I can happily wear pajamas or yoga pants all day long. For me, a good set of pajamas must meet two criteria:  they must be extremely comfortable and they must be cute. You would think it wouldn't be that difficult to find, but I can usually find something really cute - but not so comfortable, or something really comfortable - but hideous! And when I was pregnant? Fugetaboutit! I just gave up and wore Mostly Together Dad's sweats.

Who Do You Trust for Local Services?

*This post is brought to you by WhoDoYou.com.

When I'm looking to purchase a new product, I do what a lot of you all do - I go to a trusted blog to read reviews to see if it's worth it and to see the positives and negatives. When looking for a service, however, that is not always easy to do, especially if it is a smaller, local company. This is where WhoDoYou.com comes in.

Monkey Pod Games Review and Giveaway!

My son just had his birthday. It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that he is NINE years old! It feels like only yesterday that it was he, not his sister, giving me sleepless nights and forcing me to chase him all over creation. What a fun nine years it has been, though!

Q & A with Renae

Earlier this week I wrote a post titled 'When Your "Big Kid" Has a Potty Accident' where I shared how my 5 year old had an accident, an extremely rare occurrence. I heard from a lot of you who have dealt with similar issues. One reader had a question to ask:

"My son is having the same issue but he is only 3 1/2 years old. He has been potty trained for almost a year and has never had an accident. Well, we brought our baby girl home in Feb. and that's when it started. We understand why he is having them but it is becoming very frustrating. We have been patient and have started to remind him to go potty. However, there have been times (like today) when we have asked him if he has to go and he says "no." Moments later he looks at us, smiles, and pees all over himself and the floor. How should we handle this? I know it is regression, attention seeking behavior because of the new baby...but when he just does it in front of us with a smile...it is hard to not be upset. Any ideas?"

When Your "Big Kid" Has a Potty Accident

The other day, my 5 year old daughter, Shari did something she hasn't done in well over two years. She wet her pants. While it really surprised me, I knew that it was important to handle it delicately. She is at a point now that things like this have the real potential to shame and embarrass her.

Soda Stream Genesis Review

*This post is brought to you by Soda Stream.

When making the decision to start making healthier choices, the first thing I thought about was drinking more water. The problem with that is that while I do like drinking water, it gets boring after a while. Most soda contains either high fructose corn syrup or aspartame. There is one company, however, that offers an alternative - Soda Stream.

RBar Organic Fruit and Nut Bars Review

*This post it brought to you by RBar.

The other day, I was sent some RBar samples to try out. They are healthy, organic, gluten free, dairy free, and they only contain 7 ingredients or less. Sounds great, right? Well....I can be a bit of a chicken when it comes to trying new foods. So, I did what any great mother would do.

I gave them to my kids to be my guinea pigs.

QT Performance Tourmaline Ceramic Clipless Curling Wand Review

*This post is brought to you by Flat Iron Experts.

I have annoying hair. It never seems to do what I want it to, when I want it to. Creams, shampoos, and styling tools are all necessary to achieve whatever look I am going for. It can be a time consuming process to gain that look, which is why I usually wear my hair up!

When I am in the mood to do something nicer, then it is time to bust out the tools. I love my flat iron, but sometimes a curl is the way to go. I was recently sent the QT Performance Tourmaline Ceramic Clipless Curling Wand, 1-1/2 inch. Unfortunately, my hair is a bit too short for this wide wand, so I wasn't able to use it on myself! For the purpose of this review, my brave sister agreed to share her lovely locks.

Losing the Stripes

*This post is brought to you by VitaMedMD.

Today, I'm going to talk about something that almost all moms have dealt with, but few like to talk about - stretch marks. I've had three beautiful children and I am definitely a "Tiger who has earned her stripes." But, let's be real - I don't want to see them every time I look in the mirror! While they have faded with time, unfortunately they are still very much visible.

Shape-wear. It's something that many women, large or small, wear. Even incredibly thin actresses and models have admitted to using it in order to appear more shapely in their awards show duds. As for myself, I am the mom of three and I have the body to match, so I rely on shape-wear to help me feel more confident when out and about.

Buttons Diapers Review and Giveaway!

*This post is brought to you by Buttons Diapers.

I have never used cloth diapers with my children, but have long been curious about it. When pregnant with my third child, I was strongly considering going the cloth route and did a ton of research. The thing about research, though, is that there are somethings you are just not going to know unless you bite the bullet and just try it.

I was recently offered the chance to do just that, with Buttons Diapers. My first impression is that these are just adorable. From the various colors offered to the embroidered button on the back, I just love the way these look!

As a first time user of cloth, I really wanted to start off with something easy. My thought was to put the diaper on my daughter when she was not likely to have a poopy diaper, making things easier to clean. Well. as you all know, babies very rarely do exactly what we want them to. True to form, my little Sophia not only had a stinky diaper, but it was a bad one.

I was shocked at how well the Buttons diaper contained the mess. The diaper cover did not leak at all. the diaper liner was very absorbent, but the mess did make its way to the underside of the liner - though still being contained by the cover! If this had happened in her regular disposable diapers, I'm sure we would have had a much larger mess to clean up.

I took the whole thing off and tossed it in the washer. I was a little worried about staining but the insert came out as white and clean as when it first came in the mail. The cover washed out very easily and only left one small stain. Buttons has truly made a believer out of me.

Besides being a great mess container, the Buttons diapers are great for the fact that they can fit your child at just about every stage. This is accomplished by all of the various snaps in the diaper cover. There are several rows, which can easily adjust the height of the diaper. Once your diaper is adjusted to the right size, simply snap in your liner and then use the side snaps to secure the diaper on your child. Once your child has soiled one liner, you can just pop that one out and snap another one in (unless your child blows up like mine did!) While it might look intimidating at first, it is really quite easy to use.

One lucky winner is going to take home a buttons diaper cover and daytime insert of their own! To enter, simply use the Rafflecopter form below. This giveaway will en on March 21, 2014 at midnight. Good luck, everyone!

I Took My 60 Year Old Mother to a Bar...

*This post is brought to you by Restaurant.com.

I wanted to do something nice for my mother and I had some vouchers to Restaurant.com to use. There were only two choices for the area we were in, so I chose one without thinking too much about it.

Breck's Bar and Grill can be found only a short distance from the VA hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, which is the primary reason I chose it, as we were coming from an appointment there. When I think of a 'Bar and Grill' type of place, I think of a restaurant like Applebee's. That is not what we got.

Breck's Bar and Grill
When we pulled into the parking lot, the place looked deserted. It was definitely more "bar" than "grill". I gave my mother the option to back out and find another place, but being the adventurous sort, she decided we should check it out, so inside we went.

Now, before I tell you more, I should let you know that my mother, while being gregarious, outgoing and absolutely hilarious, she is also a complete teetotaler. She has only ever had a sip of wine and champagne. I was unsure of  what her reaction to this bar would be, but she was a very good sport! We sat down and were invited to order off of a short menu and were informed of all the (many) drink options.

We ordered (sans alcohol) and waited anxiously for our food. It was late in the afternoon and we were famished! Our food arrived - chicken strips for me and a melt for my mom. The menu mainly consisted of fried foods and burgers - great for two hungry gals who just wanted something basic and fast.

I have learned from this experience:

First, I have learned to not necessarily judge a book by its cover. I would never have stopped here without my Restaurant.com certificate. While a bit hesitant at first, we had a good time and good food. It was nice to get out of my own comfort zone a bit and try something new.

Second, I learned to read more carefully next time I am searching for a new restaurant to try. Restaurant.com makes it very easy to search for restaurants in a given area, but it is up to the user to read everything! Going back to the website, I found that it was pretty clear, if I had just done my research.

Third, I learned that Restaurant.com can not only be a great resource for finding a new place to eat, but it's also a great deal. At many restaurants, you can purchase a certificate for only a few dollars to gain a larger dollar amount certificate. For example, at Breck's Bar and Grill, a $10 certificate can be purchased for only $4, which is a savings of $6!

Fourth, I learned how easy it is to purchase and use a certificate. I had heard of Restaurant.com, but had never used it before, because I was a bit intimidated by the whole process. I found out that it was very simple, though! First, I chose a restaurant to try and selected it. I made my purchase and printed off the certificate. I presented the certificate when my bill came and they took the amount off. It was easy!

From Restaurant.com:

“The only thing better than going out for a great meal, is getting a great deal.  Restaurant.com has been filling tables since 1999 and is the destination for dining whether you like to plan ahead or find a meal on the go.  Restaurant.com helps diners discover the perfect dining experience and boasts nearly 50,000 dining deals available every day, even on the weekends!  And, the deals are easy to use – present the certificate to the server on a mobile device, or print out a copy, and voilà – the savings will be deducted from your final bill. Bon Appétit!

*I received compensation for this post. Regardless, all opinions are my own.

Losing Weight When You Have a Sweet Tooth

Well, three months after New Years Resolutions have been made, I'm betting that I'm not the only one who has been struggling with their 'losing weight/getting healthier' goal. I think the hardest part of any diet is just getting started.

Personally, my biggest challenge is my sweet tooth. I love sugar WAY too much! It's like crack to me. It can be very hard to stick to an eating plan when you're the only one in your house who is abstaining from dessert. If you are like me, I have some tips/tricks for getting back on track (and staying there!.

1. Clean out your cupboards. Make sure that for at least the first week, there are no sugary treats within easy reach. While your children might protest, they will appreciate it when you aren't staring at their dessert like you're about to jump across the table and attack. Those first few days are the most difficult, so make them as painless as possible.

2. If you absolutely must give your children sweets, show them what/how much there is. If a snack attack hits, your children will notice that missing cookie or two and they will call you on it! In fact, make sure to tell your children that you are trying to stay away from sweets. If your children are at all like mine, they will delight in informing you that you are "Breaking the rules" and "You aren't supposed to have that!"

3. Keep a lot of fresh fruit on hand. Fruit can be a great substitute for something sweet and it can help take the edge off of a sweets craving.

4. When a craving hits, try brushing your teeth or chewing some minty gum. It will give your taste buds a kick and if you do give in and eat something sweet, the mint from the toothpaste will make it taste gross - meaning that you are much less likely to make that mistake twice!

5. Keep lots of healthy snacks on hand. I like to keep things like carrots, celery, peanuts, cheese, etc. You can eat pretty much as many vegetables as you want. While it won't take away your craving for something sweet, it will satisfy your urge to chew and eat something.

6. Cut out the soda and juice. These are going to trigger your desire for more sweets. Turn to water instead. Not only is it better for you anyway, but it has 0 calories!

7. Contrary to popular advice, don't "Give in and allow yourself a small serving of sweets every now and then." This may be only true for me, but once I give in that first time, it is a slippery slope until my diet has been thrown completely off track and I am back at square one.

8. Plan out your meals and snacks - then stick with it. Even when you don't want to.

9. Recruit a partner. Preferably, your significant other will do it with you. Setting a goal with another person gives you someone else to help keep you on track. Just be careful to choose someone who won't just hear about you having a craving and choose to join you, rather than talk you out of cheating!

10. If you do slip up and cheat on your diet, don't let it derail you. It is very easy to say, "Well, I had a doughnut this morning, so my diet's already shot for the day - bring on the cookies, cake and pie!" If you slip up, accept it and know that your whole day/week/month isn't shot. You can move on and the quicker you can do that, the better.
